Here are a few reasons why even after two years the movie is still fresh in our minds.
1. Practical Fairytale - In his second outing as director, Ayan Mukerji once again opted for a coming-of-age story. This time it was a love story which resonated with the new generation who grew up with practical views on a relationship without loosing hope of a fairytale ending.
Deepika Padukone's character, 'Naina', starts this journey to adulthood with fancying Kabir 'Bunny' Thapar. Bunny— Free-willed, live-wire and life of that group; everything opposite of Naina. But in the second half, matured Naina knows her priorities even if she is still in love with Bunny.
2. Practical work relationship - Ranbir and Deepika had ended their relationship before signing up this film. Many suspected that the movie will not work well because the tension between these stars will ruin the performance. But just like their characters, Ranbir and Deepika too got over the past and gave one of the finest performances of their career.
3. Farooq Sheikh - Farooq Sheikh's character is the moral compass for free-willed Bunny. Sheikh played Ranbir's father in the movie. In his ever-so-sweet demeanour, sheikh managed to steal the show from Ranbir when they were in same frame.
4. Beautiful music - Songs by Pritam were smash hit. The songs were penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya and Kumaar. Dancing numbers like Badtameez Dil and Ghagra topped the charts. Balam Pichkari now has become a featured song at holi parties in India. But the soulful Kabira sung by Rekha Bhardwaj and Tochi Raina still takes control of hearts.
5. Friendship - Refreshing portrayal of friendships in the movie was also one of the points that set the movie apart from the crowd. Ranbir, Kalki and Aditya Roy Kapur's character are best of friends and the ups and downs of this relation is the secondary plot worth watching the movie for.
