Lady Gaga performance and Joe Biden's powerful message

"Take the pledge, which says, 'I will intervene in situations when consent has not or cannot be given... Change the culture so that no abused woman or man ever feels like they have to ask themselves, 'What did I do?'" Biden said, before inviting Lady Gaga on stage for her performance of 'Till it Happens to You' from the documentary The Hunting Ground which is on sexual assault on US campuses.

Lady  Gaga was joined on stage by survivors of sexual assault.

Row of men watched with folded arms as Jenny Beavan walked to the stage to receive her Oscar for Best Costume Design for Mad Max: Fury Road. Guys, you take your hands and then smack them against each other. It's not very complicated.

When Leo was ready to get on that stage

*Oscar, I see you. I'm coming to get you.*

I was among the minority not rooting for DiCaprio but in the moments leading up to the win, it felt like the whole world was invested in DiCaprio finally getting his Oscar. Hard to not get swept in that gigantic of wave emotion when you know just as well as Leo that it's coming.

Undeterred by an orchestra trying to play him off stage, the director used his win to make an important comment on the diversity row saying, "Let us make sure for once and forever that the colour of our skin becomes as irrelecant as the length of our hair."

Spotlight

As someone who is both Catholic and works in the media, it was heartening to see Spotlight take home the trophy for Best Film. It's a rare film that combines skilful storytelling and incredible performances while bringing forth issues that remain pertinent today.
