Amid rising discontent within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with allegations and counter-allegations by its MLAs and leaders showing no sign of ending, sources say that party chief Arvind Kejriwal is doing his best to bring about unity within the party.

"Kejriwal is really upset with party MLAs for raising their issues outside the party. He is personally going to meet party MLAs, leaders and workers and discuss their issues so that they don't talk about them in public," an official in AAP said. He added that some major changes within the party leadership were also expected shortly.

There has been mass dissent within the party following its massive defeat in recently held Delhi civic polls. While some party leaders differed from the party on "EVM issue," others accused Kejriwal of losing touch with the grassroots in his bid to make AAP a national party.

According to party sources, Kejriwal has also asked for the ground reports of party workers and volunteers and will meet them to understand their problems.

"Several party workers have complained that the leadership has become inaccessible in recent times. He will now rework on his image of being a common man's leader," a party official said.

"The inaccessibility of the party leadership has forced party members to convey their issues through media," he added.

Earlier on Monday, party MLA Amanatullah Khan had resigned from the party's Political Affairs Committee (PAC) panel after the party leadership urged Kejriwal to expel him. This came a day after Khan accused Kumar Vishwas of plotting a "coup" to overthrow Kejriwal as the party chief.

And analysis

Kejriwal's bid to rework his image as an "accessible" leader may not be enough to stem the discontent in the immediate future.

The party is so far is being seen as one that failed to deliver on its promises. Kejriwal needs to deliver something tangible.
