Angry over the absence of any development work in their area, residents of Jhangola village in Narela constituency on Saturday boycotted polling in the Delhi Assembly elections.

According to a senior electoral official, of the 1,800 registered voters in the area, only 19 had cast their vote till 12.30 PM. The officials said they were trying to convince the miffed voters to exercise their franchise.

"The villagers have some issues on the basis of which they have announced a boycott of the polling.

"As per the residents, no development work has been carried out in their area for several years," said a senior official.

The two polling stations in the Jhangola area thus have seen only 19 people cast their vote till noon, the official said.

"We are trying to convince them to cast their vote, but they are not coming out in good numbers," he said.
