The Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) Chief Harminder Singh Mintoo will be taken to various places, including Goa, where he is reported to have had a base, to gather information about his hideouts and contacts. His police custody was also extended by seven days on Monday. The Special Cell of Delhi Police wants to establish the number of people involved in the Nabha jailbreak after an attempt to revive the Khalistan movement. Mintoo’s links with Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agents, who were helping him financially, will also be probed.

Additional sessions judge Reetesh Singh allowed the plea of the Delhi Police seeking extension of Mintoo’s custody till December 12. He permitted the cops to keep him in handcuffs as and when required, in spite of knowing he managed to escape from a high-security prison.

The defence counsel, meanwhile, opposed the plea for the custody, saying seven days were already given to the police, which were sufficient to interrogate him. The court had, on November 28, remanded Mintoo in to police custody for seven days, saying his “custodial interrogation” was required to unearth the conspiracy in the Nabha jailbreak case.

The police earlier submitted, they needed to interrogate Mintoo to know of the role of ‘insiders and outsiders,’ who assisted him and five others in fleeing from Nabha jail, Patiala. It said that the role of ISI and some terror organisations also needed to be probed, as Mintoo had visited Pakistan. According to police, a loaded pistol and six live cartridges were recovered from his possession. He will also be medically examined every 48 hours.

“Nearly 100 rounds of ammunition were fired during the jailbreak incident and two officers were injured. Mintoo also snatched a rifle from an officer,” the police had said. He was nabbed from a Delhi railway station, a day after he escaped with five other inmates.
