BMW thief caught in traffic jam, arrested

While Delhi traffic may be a pain for most commuters, it proved to be a blessing in disguise for Lieutenant Colonel Pinaki Bani after a 25-year old youth, who tried to steal his BMW, got caught, after getting stuck in a traffic jam

Earlier, Bani had posted an advertisement on OLX to sell his Zen online following which he received a call from a consumer to buy the car. The would be consumer, Jigar, then reached near the Sabre Officers Mess at the Station Road where he saw Bani's BMW parked alongside the Zen and this is when he tried to steal the BMW.

Bani says the accused put mirchi powder in his eyes and got into the car. As per the CCTV footage, the security guard at the gate, on seeing the BMW, got ready to open the gate but realising that something was amiss, didn't open it. The accused then tried to open the gate himself and did so, driving the BMW through. Chased by the guards he found himself caught in a traffic jam and was caught.

According to the police, a call was received around 9:41pm.
