New Zealand women's cricket team on Friday created history as they posted 490/4 in their allotted 50 overs against Ireland. This is the biggest ODI innings total in history.

The White Ferns surpassed their own 21-year-old record of 455 in the 48th over as they batted first having won the toss in the opening ODI. They also surpassed the highest score in the men's game of 444/3 by England in the match against Ireland women at the YMCA Cricket Club, Dublin.

Captain Suzie Bates was the star of the innings with a remarkable knock of 151 runs off 94 balls while Maddy Green scored 121 runs off 77 balls.

Bates slammed 24 boundaries and two sixes and established a 172-run partnership stand with opener Jess Watkin (62). Watkin struck 10 boundaries in her composed 59-ball knock.

Green, who came at number three, capitalised on New Zealand's amazing start and slammed 15 boundaries and a six in her entertaining knock.

Amelia Kerr added an unbeaten 81 runs off just 45-ball knock including nine boundaries and three sixes as New Zealand went past the highest score in 50-over cricket.

For Ireland, Cara Murray led their bowling attack as she took two wickets. However, she conceded 119 runs in her 10-over spell that made her the most expensive bowler in the history of ODI cricket.

The visitors bowled out Ireland for 144 to win the match by 346 runs.

"It's unbelievable," Bates, who scored her 10th ODI century, said. "To set a world-record for men's and women's cricket is special and it's going to take a bit to chase it down."

Bates reached 4,192 ODI runs to surpass Debbie Hockley (4,066) as the all-time leading run-scorer for the New Zealand women's team.

New Zealand shattered a 21-year-old record that they previously set when they scored 455-5 against Pakistan at Christchurch in 1997. The highest ODI score in the men's game was set in 2016 when England scored 444-3 against Pakistan at Nottingham.
