Introducing T10 cricket, a thrilling 10-over version of the game that is set to take center stage as India prepares to host the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) in 2024.

India, known for its passion and love for cricket, will be hosting its inaugural T10 tennis ball cricket tournament, the ISPL. This groundbreaking event will feature six teams, each owned by a franchise representing prominent cities such as Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, and Srinagar.

Schedule

The upcoming tournament, scheduled from March 2, 2024, to March 9, 2024, will witness six teams battling it out in a total of 19 matches. All these thrilling encounters will take place in the vibrant city of Mumbai.

The Indianl Street Premier League (ISPL) aspires to transcend national boundaries and establish itself as a global platform. Its primary objective is to foster the growth of budding cricket prodigies while providing a more organized structure to the city's cricket scene.

This unique competition is centered around tennis-ball cricket, aiming to showcase the raw talent and boundless energy of street cricket players on a grand scale. By doing so, the ISPL aims to bring these unsung heroes into the limelight and celebrate their unfiltered skills.

Format

Each team will play each other once in the round-robin phase, resulting in a total of five games for each team.

Following this phase, the top four teams will qualify for the playoffs, which will adopt a similar format to the Indian Premier League (IPL). In this format, the top two teams will compete against each other in a qualifier match, while the third and fourth-placed teams will face off in a virtual quarter-final.

The winner of the first qualifier will advance directly to the final. Meanwhile, the loser of the qualifier and the winner of the virtual quarter-final will battle it out for a spot in the final.

Owners

When discussing the team owners, five prominent figures from the Indian film industry have acquired ownership rights for five teams.

Amitabh Bachchan has purchased the Mumbai team, while Sri Nagar and Hyderabad were acquired by Akshay Kumar and Ram Charan, respectively. Suriya Sivakumar has chosen Chennai as his team, and Hrithik Roshan has become the owner of the Bengaluru team.

There is no official word on the owner of the Kolkata team, yet.

BCCI Treasurer, Ashish Shelar, is a prominent member of the core committee of the Indian Super League (ISPL). In a recent statement, he emphasized that the ISPL aims to provide a remarkable platform for unrecognized talents to showcase their skills on a grand stage.

“The ISPL not only brings a dynamic and entertaining cricket format to the forefront but more importantly, it opens the gates for extraordinary talent that often goes unnoticed,” Shelar said.

Ravi Shastri, the former coach and player of the Indian cricket team, has joined ISPL as the Chief Mentor for the upcoming tournament.

The ISPL will offer the cricketing dreams of many a chance to flourish on a big stage. I am looking forward to witnessing the success stories that will undoubtedly emerge from this exciting venture,” Shastri said.
