Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is in the midst of another controversy, as Cricket Australia (CA) launches an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his hospitalization in Adelaide.

Shortly after being withdrawn from the upcoming ODI series, citing 'management' reasons, Maxwell's situation took a more serious turn with CA confirming the investigation. The 35-year-old, who was in Adelaide for a golf event following the conclusion of the Melbourne Stars' Big Bash League campaign, reportedly attended a Six and Out concert on January 19, the night in question.

While police have not been involved, CA has taken the initiative to probe the incident. A CA spokesperson stated, 'Cricket Australia is aware of an incident involving Glenn Maxwell in Adelaide at the weekend and is seeking further information. It is not related to him being replaced in the ODI squad, a decision that was made following the BBL and based on his individual management plan. Maxwell is expected to return for the T20 series'.

Despite not featuring in a Test match since 2017, Maxwell will be absent from the ODI series, while other red-ball stars like Steve Smith, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, and Cameron Green transition to white-ball games against the West Indies.
Reports from 7News suggest that CA denies Maxwell's exclusion from the ODI series is connected to the incident. Maxwell had initially been part of the 13-man squad.

Maxwell has been involved in peculiar incidents in the past, including injuring his leg during a birthday party and suffering a concussion after falling from a golf cart during the 2023 ODI World Cup. Despite such setbacks, he made a remarkable comeback, scoring a double-century against Afghanistan in a memorable chase while battling cramps.

Last week, Maxwell reportedly informed his teammates of stepping down from the captaincy of his BBL team, the Melbourne Stars, after they failed to make it to the finals. Reflecting on the situation, Maxwell expressed frustration, stating, 'After the first couple of years, having so much dominance and not being able to get over that final hurdle, it feels like the last four years out of finals contention is quite frustrating'.
