WHOA! Deepika Padukone admits being paid more than Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh for 'Padmaavat'

A lot has been said and written about Deepika Padukone's remuneration for playing the protagonist in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus - Padmaavat. Several reports had even suggested that the actress got paid a whopping sum of Rs 13 crore, which was reported to be higher than what was paid to Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the film.

Though, this comes as a welcome news and gives a good sign for female actresses in the industry where pay disparity is often debated upon, Deepika has not confirmed the amount paid to her as remuneration for the film but she did admit that she's been paid more than the other two male leads in the film. 

This revelation too happened on the Neha Dhupia hosted chat show Vogue BFFs. When Neha asked DP to reveal the amount she was paid for Padmaavat, DP chose to remain tight lipped on the matter. However, Neha then twisted her question and asked if she's been paid more than Shahid and Ranveer, pat came the reply "Yes". 

During the 3D trailer launch of Padmaavat last year, when Deepika was asked about her fee for the film, she had stated, "Talking about my remuneration for me is not exciting. I am confident and comfortable in what I get paid. But something that I am extremely proud is the fact that they have invested so much money on a film like this and a poster like this, featuring me on it. That makes me proud and that for me is hugely encouraging. It’s the turning point for Indian Cinema, I haven’t seen this happen before. I think this is the beginning of great things and a lot of amazing and great things to happen to women in films."
