Sanjay Dutt recalls his hard times during his jail term in Pune's Yerwada jail...
Known as Bollywood's bad boy, Sanjay Dutt is grabbing the eyeballs once again, reason being, his biopic titled Sanju has hit the theatres this Friday. The movie, that stars Ranbir Kapoor in the role of Sanjay, has opened to a thunderous response from the audience. But the release of the Rajkumar Hirani directorial has once again put the spotlight on the controversial life and times of Sanjay Dutt. While a number of aspects of Dutt's life have been dealt with in Sanju, the actor himself had opened up about his life in a quite a few of his earlier interviews. We came across one such interview in which the Munnabhai MBBS actor had opened up about how the time he spent in jail had brought about positive changes in him and how he had used the dustbins and earthen pots in jail to build his physique.
In an interview given to IANS, the actor had shared that the days of his tenure in Pune's Yerwada jail were nothing less than a roller coaster ride. If one looks at the positive side, he said, those days taught him a lot and made him a better person. He told the agency, "It was a challenge to live without my family and loved ones. Back then, I learnt how to keep my body in good shape. In place of lifting weights and dumbbells, I used to lift dustbins and earthern pots."
He further revealed that every six months there used to be a cultural program in jail for which he taught fellow prisoners how to sing, dance and deliver a dialogue. Dutt shared that during those tough times, the jail inmates became more like a family to him. Whenever he gave up, they would encourage him. "I learnt a lot from the time I spent in prison. It broke my pride," he said.
Remembering the day he walked out of the jail as a free man, Sanjay Dutt told the agency that the day he was freed from the jail after the final verdict, that was the best day of his life. "I missed my father (Sunil Dutt). I wanted him to see me as a free man. He would have been the happiest person. We should never forget our family members. They always remain our strength."
