If rumour mills to be believed, Deepika Padukone is gearing up to play the lead in the first female superhero franchise in Bollywood.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, sources tell them that the project is in early conception stages with a script being written for an action-packed science fiction story. First two instalments will require a massive investment of Rs 300 crore.

The report also reveals that the costume for Deepika's character will be inspired by the Gal Gadot version of Wonder Woman.

"Deepika’s avatar is being fashioned after Gal Gadot’s in Wonder Woman. The developments have been kept under wraps with a creative team holding discreet meetings with Deepika on a regular basis," the tabloid quoted their source.

"The costume will be sexy, not contrived or gimmicky. Since Deepika has an envious figure, a special outfit is being designed for her character which will be custom-made to facilitate hardcore physical combat and movement."

Deepika will soon begin training in mixed martial arts, various forms of hand-to-hand combat. The project is expected to go on floor next year given the longer pre-production period.

After the success of Padmaavat, Deepika was supposed to start working on Vishal Bhardwaj's movie adaptation of Hussain Zaidi's book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. But the production was put on halt because of her co-star Irrfan Khan's health issues. Apart from this, there can be one more project lined for Deepika if she chooses to reprise her role of Serena Unger in Vin Diesel's next instalment of xXx.
