A 21-year-old is battling for life after an accident that occurred when he attempted to evade traffic police who were trying to stop him for speeding.

Kaisar, a resident of Shivajinagar and carpenter by profession, sustained head injuries and has been admitted to the ICU in MS Ramaiah Hospital.

He was not wearing a helmet, although he was carrying it.
The incident took place at 12.30pm on Sunday on Bangalore International Airport (BIA) Road. Traffic police were checking for speeding vehicles near Hunasamaranahalli.

Kaisar was riding his scooter over the speed limit of 65-70 km per hour.

A traffic constable tried to flag him down but, to evade him, Kaisar rode the vehicle to the extreme right of the lane and then veered left.

He lost control and rammed into a parked truck. The truck too had been flagged down for speeding and not following lane discipline.
Kaisar’s brother Jakir was riding pillion, but jumped just before the accident. He  sustained minor injuries on hand. Immediately after the accident, people gathered at the spot and blamed the traffic police.

They staged a protest in front of Chikkajala traffic police station, demanding that speed limit be removed on BIA Road.
A senior police officer said youngsters come to BIA Road on weekends for drag races and performing stunts and thus traffic police have to be deployed there.
