BJP state president KS Eshwarappa on Friday sent a strong message that the party was not banking on any one leader and the party workers were its real asset. In a veiled attack on former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, he said that it was the humble party workers who mattered in building the party and bringing it to power.

Addressing leaders and workers on the occasion of BJP’s foundation day, he said, “Whatever said and done, the party’s organisational power is mightier than any individual. If observed carefully, it is not leaders who give strength to the party but it is always lower rung workers who matter the most.”

Eshwarappa also reminded leaders and party workers that the party never indulged in caste politics and no one had any right to create confusion about it, subtly trying to disassociate the party from Yeddyurappa's alleged caste-based political moves.

On the occasion, deputy speaker of legislative council Vimala Gowda also expressed the same views and said the organisation was bigger than any individual, indirectly trying to belittle BS Yeddyurappa's stature.

During the function at the party office, Gowda said that no matter what or who, the party was bigger than any individual. She said it was not the leaders who were the core strength of the party, but grassroot-level workers.

Gowda hailed the state government for doing a good job. She recalled the days when BJP members had to go the voters' doorsteps to convince them to vote for the saffron party.

MLAs BM Vijaykumar and Ashwath Narayan, and Koppal MP Shivarame Gowda were among those present during the function.

Reacting to reports that BJP national general secretary Dharmendra Pradhan, who is also in-charge of party affairs in Karnataka, would be arriving in Bangalore to sort out the leadership issue raised by former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, Eshwarappa clarified that he had no such information about Pradhan’s visit.

He refused to comment on reinstatement of Yeddyurappa as chief minister. “The party high command will take appropriate decision in this regard,” he said.
