Wakf board chief ransacks office for free land

The Karnataka Wakf board president has been accused of ransacking the board’s office and threatening the staff after they refused to gift him four sites from three acres given to the Wakf board association in Jakkur.

The land was allotted to the association for constructing a layout for the members.

The divisional liaison officer of Wakf board association, Syed Abdul Hameed, lodged a complaint (No. 0017/11) with the High Grounds police against the president of the board, Sardar Ahmed Qureshi, general secretary MJ Ali and three others for ransacking the office and also threatening the staff.

Hameed alleged that Qureshi and his associates demanded four sites as gifts. They refused to pay for the sites, he said in the complaint.

It was also alleged that Qureshi and his colleagues had threatened to prevent the layout formation, unless their demands were met.

When the association did not accept their demand, the president and his colleagues filed a case with the Wakf tribunal, questioning the auction process. The tribunal, however, quashed their objection and asked the association to go ahead with its plan, Hameed said.
