At least two II PU students committed suicide on Tuesday, the day they were to know their fate in the examination, even as primary and secondary education minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri asked parents and guardians to ensure that failed students did not face derision.
 
Bangalorean Devaiah, 18, hanged himself to the ceiling of his relative’s house in Kadagadalu in Madikeri police limits. The boy, who was vacationing in his relative’s house, took the extreme step after his parents called him up and told him that he had failed in the II PU examinations.

Earlier in the day, Mallamma Patil, a II PU student, committed suicide by hanging herself to the ceiling of her house in the agriculture university residential quarters in Dharwad. Fear of failure in the exam is said to have prompted the girl to take the extreme step. Mallamma’s father worked as a superintendent in the university.
