Too late, says Congress on Yeddyurappa ouster

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been “too late” in asking Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa to quit after the state Lok Ayukta indicted him for the illegal mining in the state, the Congress said on Thursday.

“It is too late. This should have happened six months ago. There were serious charges against him," Congress' Rajiv Shukla said in the party's first reaction to the BJP's decision asking Yeddyurappa to step down "immediately". 

Shukla, who is also minister of state for parliamentary affairs, told NDTV news channel here that the Congress had been demanding Yeddyurappa's ouster for six months but the BJP ignored it.

"The BJP cannot take the moral high ground now," he said.

He said it was not yet clear if Yeddyurappa was “really resigning”.

“He has not quit as yet. He appears defiant. He should have quit yesterday,” Shukla said.
