With the rainy season coming to an end, now is the perfect time to visit waterfalls across the state. Experts say the best time to visit a waterfall is just when the monsoon is receding as the mist and fog make for a picture-perfect holiday.

“It is believed that the mist of the waterfall looks more beautiful during this season. The chill in the air and the waterfall in the background is an ideal setting for a romantic holiday,” said Viswanatha Reddy, director, department of tourism.

Karnataka has plenty of sparkling waterfalls. They are set amid sylvan environs of the districts of Kodagu to North Karnataka. West-flowing rivers gushing through thick forests in coastal Karnataka break into streams that meander across hills and tracts to end in a series of majestic waterfalls.

Nestled near the Rajiv Gandhi National Park, Iruppu Falls is another popular destination. It is 170-feet high. “This is also full during this season. The best time to see the falls in within the next two weeks as the mist will stay till December-end, but the water will recede,” he explained.  Other must-visit places are Abbey falls in Kodagu, Yagachi near Chikmaglur, Shivanasamudram near Mandya, and Unchallifalls near Siddapura.
