A miscreant who committed a theft in Kumaraswamy Layout ran out of luck three hours after the offence. Two alert Mico Layout constables caught the burglar. Gold jewellery weighing 184gm and other items worth Rs3.7 lakh were seized from the thief, identified as Inayat Pasha, 21, a native of Amarpet Circle, Kolar district. The man was held on May 9.

Pasha had entered a house around 2am, breaking through a window. He locked houseowner Shafiq Rehman, a seller of air conditioners, and his mother, who were sleeping. Pasha then broke open an almirah and fled with valuables. When Rehman’s mother woke at 4am for namaz, she raised an alarm.

At 5am, Pasha stopped at a tea stall. “He attempted to flee when he spotted us, that was suspicious. We found that he had stolen jewellery from Kumaraswamy Layout three hours ago,” said constables Jayakumar and  Mallikarjuna, who stopped for tea after night duty.

Meanwhile, Rehman was surprised to learn that the culprit was nabbed before a complaint was registered.
