A teacher of a private school in Kaveripura was beaten up on Saturday morning by angry parents, after he had been allegedly molesting some girl students over the past few months. He was later handed over to the Kamakshipalya police, who arrested and remanded him to custody.

Police said that Gangadhar, a Maths teacher of RES Convent and High School and a native of Channagiri in Davanagere district, had been misbehaving with the students for the past six months.

Some of them had even warned him several times, but he did not stop his perverted acts. The students claimed that Gangadhar used to kiss them and also shut the classroom doors while teaching, with an intention of outraging their modesty.

The incidents came to light after one of the victims, a class III student, complained to her parents about Gangadhar’s behaviour.

The anguished parents and relatives rushed to the school on
Saturday morning and questioned him about the accusations. The parents of other students and local residents also gathered in the school premises.

Refusing to be cowed down by the crowd’s questioning, Gangadhar began denying the allegations repeatedly. The angry parents then caught and beat him up black and blue.

The police reached the spot at 9.30am and tried to control the situation.

Later, Geetha, the mother of one of the victims, filed a complaint against the teacher. A victim said that he used to close the classroom door everyday while conducting the class. He used to kiss some of the girls and also misbehaved with them, she claimed.

“Many students had complained to the school authorities about the teacher several times. However, we neglected it thinking that our child must have misunderstood him. But we were shocked when many girls from our area had similar complaints against the teacher,” a parent said.

Kamakshipalya police have registered a case against him under Section 354 of the IPC.
