The consecutive leak of two PUC question papers has drawn the ire of student and teachers.  The Physics question paper was leaked ahead of Thursday’s exam. On Tuesday, the Mathematics exam was cancelled following the leak of the question paper.

Today, students appearing for competitive exams are a worried lot. Pavitra Vishwanath, a student from a college in Malleswaram, plans to appear for seven competitive exams after the PUC exams. She said: “This is just absurd and frustrating. There are no adequate security measures.”

“Many tutorials for CET will begin on April 2,” she said, wondering why the security hole was not plugged following the leak of the Mathematics paper on Tuesday.

Some students were so frustrated that they said opting for the PUC exams was a mistake. “I feel I should have opted for the ISC board. I don’t want to study for the same subject repeatedly,” said another student. This student also had access to the main questions from the leaked paper.

“I got the other papers for no charge. I also have a hard copy of the papers. I am trying to get the Chemistry paper,” said the student.

On Thursday, the pre- university (PU) board in Malleswaram was crowded as ABVP and Youth Congress workers began “demanding justice”.  Many parents wanted to ensure a suitable date is chosen for the re-scheduled exams. They later submitted their proposal to the PU board joint director. “My daughter has been preparing for IIT-JEE from class VIII. We made her stay indoors and skip social function in the past five years. Now, since the exams stand postponed, there is hardly any time to prepare,” said a parent to the PU officials.

Principals and teachers, too, were visibly upset. “We have lost hope in the system. It’s a disappointment to parents, teachers and students. I have been getting calls from students enquiring about the leak throughout the night,” said Dr L Ramu, principal, MES Pre- University College of Arts, Commerce and Science. “The department should have anticipated something like this and been alert,” he added.

A Physics professor from a city-based college said the department is toying with students’ future.
