Students commit suicide in Bangalore over caste hurdle in love

Two sixth semester BBM students of Nithyananda Swamy College, Jigani, committed suicide in separate but related incidents on Tuesday, after their parents allegedly opposed their inter-caste love affair.

Two sixth semester BBM students of Nithyananda Swamy College, Jigani, committed suicide in separate but related incidents on Tuesday, after their parents allegedly opposed  their inter-caste love affair.

Though opposed to the relationship, relatives of the students grieved together outside  the morgue as the bodies underwent post-mortem.

The police said that the girl, Bhargavi, 21, went to the college after consuming sleeping pills at her home in Surajakkanahalli. She collapsed in the college, and was taken to Narayana Hrudayalaya, where she was declared brought dead. Bhargavi’s parents reportedly had been forcing her marry her maternal uncle, and wedding preparations were in full swing. She was to marry her uncle on March 22.

Shivakumar Nayak, also 21, returned home after learning Bhargavi had collapsed. After reaching his house in

Madalingapur, he switched on the television set and learnt of her death. Shivakumar’s brother Girish Nayak later found him hanging in the house. Girish rushed Shivakumar to the same hospital where Bhargavi was taken. Doctors said the boy died before reaching thehospital.
