A 1st PUC student is in a critical state after he was run over by a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus near his college near Madiwala on Thursday. In the evening, Syed Asgar’s friends ransacked Krupa Nidhi College, alleging that the authorities showed no concern for Asgar’s condition.

Asgar, who is related to Manganahalli corporator Haseena Taj, got down from a bus near his college around 8.45 am. When was about to enter his college, another BMTC bus taking a U-turn knocked him down and ran over his leg, the police said. A bleeding Asgar was taken to St John’s Hospital by his friends. Doctors termed his condition as critical.

Agar’s friends ransacked the college late in the afternoon, saying no one from the college administration had bothered to visit him and that this reflected the institution’s indifference towards its students.

Some students, however, said that the mayhem was orchestrated by one of Asgar’s close friends Charan. “He had made an error in a copy and his English lecturer, Manjunath, was rectifying the mistake,” a student, who did not want to be named, said. “While correcting the copy, Manjunath mentioned about Asgar’s accident and said that he (Asgar) deserved to be dead. A few students went on a rampage to protest against the comment. They even beat up Manjunath,” the student said

But, the Madiwala police, who are investigating the case, suspect the group was instigated by someone to settle an old grudge. “We suspect Charan headed the group, which tried to create an issue due to an old grudge,” an officer of the Madiwala police station said.

“We have taken two youths into custody and are investigation the case.”

Meanwhile, Manjunath registered a complaint with the Madiwala police againt Charan. The traffic police registered an accident case and arrested the BMTCdriver.
