The West Division police have arrested 67 persons, solved 178 cases and recovered stolen property worth Rs1.68 crore in a month.

Among the arrested is a gang of three which was involved in car thefts for the past many years. The Kalasipalya police said cars and SUVs of various brands stolen from places like Mico Layout, Tiruvanantapura, Vijayanagar and Kalasipalya have been recovered from the gang. The recovered vehicles also include a Tempo Traveller. The vehicles recovered are worth ¤46.41 lakh.

The arrested were identified as Lokesh, 31, a resident of Ramanagar, Sadath Ali Baig, 31, a resident of Chamarajpet and Whitefield resident Bhaskar Rao, 30. They were selling the stolen cars at lower prices in Bidar, Hyderabad and other places. When asked for the documents, they used to say that the owner would give the same after paying the bank loan. Later, they never used to meet the customers.

Bike-lifters nabbed
The Upparpet police have arrested five motorcycle-lifers and recovered 25 bikes worth Rs5 lakh from them. Stolen gold jewellery worth Rs4 lakh was also recovered from the five-member gang, said the police.

The arrested are identified as Yogesh alias Puneeth, 26, a resident of Bharamasagara in Chitradurga district, Rama alias Ramaprakash, 28, a resident of Karudahalli, Kunigal taluk, Dinesh alias Akash, 25, a resident of Arakalagudu taluk, Vinay alias Bharat, 27, a resident of Maddur taluk and Satish alias Silk, 28, a resident of Kondaggui in Chitradurga.

Yogesh and Dinesh worked as assistant directors in Kannada movies. They also did odd technical jobs in films. Two other members of the gang, who did not know driving, used to steal bikes by pushing them.

They were stealing motorcycles from different parts of the city and selling them at lesser than the market price. They used to change the number plates of the stolen motorcycles. The gang was also involved in theft cases.

The gang was also stealing gold jewellery from women travelling in KSRTC and BMTC buses. However, their main focus was on stealing vehicles, the police said.
