In an attempt to aid diabetes awareness in the state, chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Monday said that his government will do all it can to aid and assist organisations working towards the welfare of patients suffering from diabetes.
Flagging off a walkathon organised by the Karnataka Institute of Diabetology on the occasion of World Diabetes Day, Gowda emphasised the need for leading a stress-free life.

“Everybody is under tremendous pressure since our lifestyle and work culture is changed. Politicians are no exception to this changing trend. Diabetes has now become a silent killer. We need comprehensive efforts to tackle the situation,” he said.
Approximately 66.2 million in India suffer from diabetes, Gowda said.

The state government has implemented several programmes to address the issue through its agencies and various hospitals.
“We have plans to further improve the facilities of the Karnataka Institute of Diabetology. Over the next two years, the institute will emerge as the best centre in the country,” Gowda said.

More than 2,500 people participated in the walkathon, organised by the Karnataka Institute of Diabetology and Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India-Karnataka Chapter.
