Karnataka couldn't have asked for more: After the disappointing second PUC results that declared on Tuesday evening, comes the soothing news about the overwhelming performance of their juniors: the SSLC students.

It was a record jump in the overall pass percentage this year, with 80.79% of freshers passing the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination. The pass percentage was 24.10% and 11.64% for repeater and private candidates, respectively. The overall pass percentage was 73.90% this year, against 63.56% last year.

The second year Pre-University (PU-II) results were declared on Tuesday evening with the students recording a dismal 48.93% pass percentage. The highest SSLC score this year was 620/625 and three students shared the top slot-Aniketh Sathyanarayan from United High School (Hassan), Nalini H from Vivekananda High School (Bellary) and Vishal J from Vivekananda High School (Bellary). The second rank holder, Charitha Venkatesh B, scored 619.

It turned out to be a day of celebration for students in the city, after the SSLC results were published on websites in the evening.

As many as 2,634 students secured 100% in Mathematics, while it was 102 for Science and 25 for Social Science. About 8.73 lakh students had appeared for the exams. There was good news for the city as well. While the Bangalore Rural educational district topped the list in terms of overall pass percentage, Bangalore North secured the 15th place among the 34 educational districts in the state. Bidar, on the other hand, was at the rock bottom in its performance this year too—its overall pass percentage was a dismal 53%.

Master of all trades
Juggling films and studies is not an easy task, but Master Kishan has managed it effortlessly. The youngest person to direct a professional feature film—an effort which earned him a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records—Master Kishan has reason to feel proud, once more, after he scored 93 per cent in the SSLC exam.

So how does he feel about his latest accomplishment? “I’m really happy and excited,” said the child prodigy. “I thank my teachers for their help. We had 6 – 7 preliminary exams which started in December. This is a very good thing that my school did. Since we were so well prepared, I didn’t feel nervous or anxious.”

The young director said his father and mother helped him a great deal while he was busy making documentaries. “My father explained a lot of lessons and my mother taught me mathematics so it wasn’t too difficult to manage,” said Kishan.
