The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has built a sound-proof wall between the city civil court complex and the upcoming underground station on Old Post Office Road.

The 4-m high semi-transparent polyacrylic sheets have been placed barricading the civil court building, so that the sound waves that hit the wall will be partially absorbed while the remaining will be reflected back. BMRCL has taken the initiative to ensure that the court proceedings are not disturbed by the ongoing work on the underground station opposite Central College campus. The work on the station will take two years to complete, and traffic has already been re-routed in a way that the temporary road passes close to the civil court.

“The underground station and track building work will be robust and cause sound disturbances. We do not want the court proceedings to be disturbed and decided to sound-proof the court complex side while the work is on,” said BLY Chavan, spokesman of BMRCL. The contractor working on this section of the underground work is CEC-Soma-CICI-JV, which has purchased these sheets for Rs12 lakh, sources said. The sheets apparently have been imported from Italy, although the spokesman denied it.

Labourers who constructed the sound-proof wall said that sound waves from vehicles passing by and the station building work will be partly reflected and partly absorbed. The height of the wall has been maintained at 3.5 m, after which the structure curves towards the road in such a way that the waves get reflected back.
Works like boring and blasting of tunnels have started near the UVCE campus. Minor blasts to cut through the rocks for tracks have just begun. The track will however be built from the Majestic underground station building site and come through to this junction.
