Sene men attack Bangalore University official

Activists of Sri Ram Sene led by Pramod Mutalik, on Friday, went on a rampage in Central College and attacked Dr Niranjan BR, director, directorate of correspondence courses and distance education, for the delay in conducting exams. Muthalik even threatened to “burn the university” if the exams were not held on December 26.

The exams for distance education courses, held in August-September this year, were cancelled following reports of copying in Bellary, Davangere, Koppal and Bangalore. The plan to conduct a re-exams was delayed as CCTV cameras were not installed at exam centres. “I took permission to conduct exams on December 14, although we had not announced that. However, we decided not to go ahead as we wanted CCTVs to be installed,” said Niranjan.

He said a gang led by Muthalik entered his office and shouted slogans. “Mutalik sat in front of me and said that was is an atrocity on the students that the re-exams have not been conducted. They asked me to call the registrar and later they started throwing the furniture in the room and slapped me,” added Niranjan.

The police have detained Mutalik and his men on charges of attempt to murder, deterring a public servant from discharging his duty and destruction of public property.
