After resort politics, it is now raining CDs in state politics. State JD(S) president HD Kumaraswamy dropped a bombshell on Thursday evening by releasing an audio and video CD recording of a telephonic conversation to nail BJP leaders’ involvement in Operation Lotus.

The phone conversation, allegedly between JD(S) MLA from Gubbi SR Srinivas and BJP MLA Suresh Gowda, has the latter apparently trying to coax the former into quitting his assembly membership in return for a huge sum of money.

The voice, said to be that of Suresh Gowda, first tries to seal a deal with Srinivas for Rs5 crore. However, Srinivas, who recorded the conversation to nail the BJP leaders, raises his demand to Rs100 crore and later brings it down to Rs25 crore.

During the conversation, Suresh Gowda is heard saying that he would have to speak to minister R Ashoka to finalise the deal. “If you agree for Rs15 crore and a post in any board or corporation, the money will be delivered without delay and let us settle the deal,” Gowda is heard saying.

Releasing the CD, Kumaraswamy said that the BJP government was a threat to the very democratic system in the state and should be dismissed.
Earlier in the day, it was the BJP which fired the first salvo in the CD war by releasing a CD of unruly behaviour of opposition members during the trust vote in the legislative assembly on October 11.

BJP spokesperson and MLA CT Ravi, who released the CD, said: “We will send this CD along with a letter explaining what happened in the assembly hall to the president, the prime minister, the speaker of Lok Sabha, the Union law minister, UPA chief Sonia Gandhi and the heads of all the national parties.”

“The legislative assembly is a forum to discuss people’s problems, but the opposition used it to show their unruly behaviour. If this continues, then it will be difficult to control them even with military commandos” he said.

It was high time stringent action was taken to stop such behaviour in future, Ravi said.
