With PU Board director Rashmi Mahesh saying that at least ten days would be required to complete evaluation work, and striking lecturers in no mood to relent, science students are bracing themselves to take the CET examinations without knowing how they would have have fared in the PU examinations.
CET is scheduled to be held on May 3 and 4.
“I am worried about what’s happening with the strike. I think my marks (at the CET) will be affected by it. The state government should do something about it right away,” said Manasa R from Aishwarya PU College, who is burning the midnight oil to prepare for her CET, even as the striking lecturers planned to intensify their strike with a protest at Freedom Park on Monday.
But the anxiety of the students is obviously the last thing on the mind of the striking lecturers.
Meanwhile, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members took to the streets on Sunday to protest against the evaluation boycott by PU lecturers and criticised the state government’s inaction. “This is not the time for the protests to take place. We condemn the strike. The state government is also making delays. The CET exams are already fixed for the third of next month and the evaluations should not affect that. Students are already tensed and this matter should be resolved,” said S Prem, city secretary of ABVP.
“Every time something like this happens, it is us students who are affected, not the board or the lecturers. I am really tense. And that’s because I have the entrance exams (CET) to think about as well (besides the PU results). The leaking of exam papers was terrible enough for us. And now this!” said Sanjay K (name changed) from St Joseph’s PU College.
Sameer Ali Khan, CMR National Junior College, said, “I am not sure what is going to happen if the papers don’t get evaluated in time.” He, like thousands of other PU Science students who have taken PU examinations this year, feels insecure over what may happen if he takes the CET exam only to find out later (because PU results could get delayed due to the strike) that he has not fared well in the PU examinations.
