A Bangalore school has tied up with a website to enable its students improve their writing skills and help them think out of the box.

Sri Vani Educational Centre, Rajajinagar, has joined hands with www.zapzany.com in this regard. The programme was first introduced as a pilot project in the school past year. It has taken off completely this year.
The online platform looks into various kinds of writing — analytical, journalistic and creative. The representatives of the website will give guidelines to the teachers about how to go ahead with the scheme.
“The concept behind it is to allow students to think critically, write and be more articulate,” said Usha Rao, CEO and founder of the start-up website. She said the concept is a shift in paradigm, to think differently.
Rao elaborated that under the programme, students of Classes I to III will be introduced to various topics, such as art-enabled writing. Rao said the teachers will be given various tools, on the basis of which, they would judge the students’ writing. She said the evaluation was more qualitative than quantitative.
Rao informed that the learning modules were flexible and could be conducted in more ways than one, as per the decision of the resource person. At the end of the year, writing samples of the students will be compiled in a book. She said the students might be keen to read what their peers have written and perhaps this would spur them into reading.
About 180 students of Class V have been a part of the activity this year. Sharada Prasad, secretary of Sri Vani Education Centre, said they had not expected such a robust response from the students.
He said many students, who were earlier reluctant towards writing, were now showing interest, improving their verbal skills and, consequently, their confidence level too was rising.
He said he had noticed that some students had
now started keeping a notebook with them to jot down their thoughts. He said what inspired the students is the incentive that their works will be published in a book.
