Educationists were upset when the pass percentage of the second-year PU results announced last week fell short of the half-way mark. Now students, who have passed the exams with good marks, are also not happy with the results.
Many are complaining that they have not got the marks they deserved in some subjects.

“I was expecting above 90 in English, but I got just 79. I think something is wrong with the evaluation. So I applied for revaluation and I am waiting for the results,” said Sanjana, a student of Kumaran PU College, Padmanabhaagar.
Like Sanjana, there are many who have applied for revaluation.

“The fee fixed for revaluation is heavy. But we have no other option except applying for it. I did well in Physics and Mathematics, but the marks given were less. I have no faith in the evaluation process,” said Puneeth Kumar, a student of Mahaveer Jain PU College, VV Puram.

This year, the overall pass percentage was 48.93. Compared with previous year’s results, there was a 1.11% increase in this year’s results. But this year, the evaluation work begun on a bad note, as lecturers were in protest. They even boycotted the evaluation work for about a week. Finally, the state government managed to persuade the lecturers involved in the protest and they ended the boycott.
“The government finally managed to persuade the lecturers who joined the evaluation work almost after a week. But they completed the evaluation work in a hurry,” said Shruthi, another student who applied for revaluation.

The students faced the same problem last year. They raised their voice against the the way their papers were evaluated. Then also, lecturers staged a protest and boycotted evaluation work demanding hike in remuneration.

Some students whom DNA interviewed said the education department itself might have done this to make money through revaluation, retotalling and photo copies.

“I am sure this year many students will apply for re-totalling and re-valuation. Even I have applied, because the marks which they have allotted cannot be trusted. For that I need to spend money now,” said Chandrashekar of Vijaya PU College.

When we look at the pass percentage, course-wise, of freshers this year, it is 64.95 in science, 67.56 in commerce and 51.44 in arts stream. Compared with previous year, freshers’ pass percentage has fallen. In 2010, it was 66.83% in science, 53.24% in arts and 71.41% in commerce stream.
