While Lakshman Savadi, CC Patil and Krishna Palemar are drawing flak from all corners, Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda praised them in the council on Wednesday for their ‘model code of conduct’.

“I am happy that the accused ministers submitted resignation to keep the dignity of the house intact. They have set a very good tradition and set a standard for democratic proceedings,” he told the council.

In the council, the opposition bombarded the chief minister with a plethora of questions. At one stage, Gowda sought to pay back the opposition in its own coin. He held out a list of about 20 sex scandals where opposition legislators were found guilty.

He told the council that on Tuesday, he was in Kadur to attend a function. He immediately left for Bangalore when he learnt about the incident and reached the city at 12.30am. He said he took stock of the situation at midnight and spoke to the accused ministers at 6.30am on Wednesday, getting them to submit their resignation by 8.30am. He asked the opposition what else it wanted.

The atmosphere in the council turned chaotic only a few minutes after it was thrown open for question-and-answer session.

Opposition leaders Motamma, Veeranna Mattikatti, MC Nanaiah and Basavaraj Horatti requested the council chairman to allow discussion on porngate. However, the chairman, DH Shankaramurthy, said he could not give permission as he had not got any written notice in this regard. However, later, he allowed the discussion as the opposition members protested.

When Motamma started speaking, primary and secondary education minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri interrupted her and said the government had acted justly in the issue by making the accused ministers resign. At this, the opposition leaders rushed to the well of the house.

The council chairman Shankaramurthy adjourned the house till 3pm. When the house assembled at 3pm, the opposition leaders refused to go to their seat and demanded that the chief minister or leader of the house, VS Acharya, be present. Confusion prevailed in the house and it was again adjourned till 4.30pm.

When the evening session began, Nanaiah said the ruling party should listen to the opposition. Kageri said the issue got over when the three resigned.

To this, Motamma said the BJP members are thick-skinned. She said earlier they used to defend komuvada (communalism) and now they were defending kamavada (sexism).
