The opposition parties in the state continue to capitalise on the porngate, much to the embarrassment of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The issue resonated even in the campaigning for Gandhinagar ward by-poll on Saturday. Some people posing as BJP workers were distributing pamphlets ridiculing the porngate. The pamphlets also  mentioned other sexcapades of the state BJP members, such as former minister H Halappa and excise minister MP Renukacharya, and, satirically, requested the people to vote for the BJP.

This came to light when Sriram M, a BJP worker, saw some people conducting door-to-door campaign in the guise of BJP workers. As Sriram himself is the in-charge of campaigning in the area, he went to check on the persons, who dumped the pamphlets and fled. Sriram labelled the act as a conspiracy of the rival parties to bring disrepute to the BJP.  He said the opposition carried out this gimmick to ensure the defeat of the BJP candidate in the by-poll. A complaint was registered with Sheshadripuram police. The police have taken up the case under Indian Penal Code's section 501 (printing and distributing defamatory matter).

Saturday was the last day for campaigning for the by-poll that will be held on Sunday between 7 am and 5 pm .  Sixteen polling booths have been identified as sensitive and 14 as hyper-sensitive.

The proceedings at hyper-sensitive booths will be videographed. The police will be on patrol and electoral officers will ensure that illegal banners are taken down and money distribution does not happen during elections.
