The high court on Monday dismissed the petition that had accused JD(S) state president HD Kumaraswamy of bigamy, on the grounds of lack of proof.

City-based advocate Sashidhar Belagumba had filed the petition in 2011, wherein he alleged that the former chief minister had married actress Radhika without giving divorce to his first wife Anitha. The petitioner had stated that Radhika had made statements in the media in this regard and Kumaraswamy himself had confirmed fathering a child with her.

The petition stated that by marrying the actress, Kumaraswamy had violated Section 494 of Indian Penal Code. When the case came up for hearing on Monday, the high court dismissed it on the grounds of lack of evidence.
