Over 3k get, set for midnight marathon in Bangalore

Eminent personalities from the fields of sports, medicine, fitness, film and IT shared their views on Thursday at the curtain raiser panel discussion organised on the upcoming Bengaluru Midnight Marathon (BMM) 2010.

Eminent personalities from the fields of sports, medicine, fitness, film and IT shared their views on Thursday at the curtain raiser panel discussion organised on the upcoming Bengaluru Midnight Marathon (BMM) 2010.

The panelists included: Dr Chandra Siddaiah, head of sports medicine, Manipal Hospital; Puneeth Krishnamurthy, vice-captain of Indian rugby team and captain of Karnataka rugby team; Sharmila Mandre, Kannada Sandalwood actress; Dr Chytra V Anand, dermatologist and fitness expert; Sudhakar Rao, CEO, Champions Group; RK Mishra, charter president of Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor (RBITC) and founder of Change India; Kapil K Gupta, RBITC president; and Michael Carter, director of human relations, Cisco Systems.

A few of the athletes from Ethiopia joining the marathon were also part of the event. They shared their views on participating in the discussion.
Organised by RBITC, the marathon will be held in Whitefield on Sunday night.  Runners from corporate professionals and NGOs are expected to participate in the event, according to RBITC president Kapil Gupta.

Addressing the media, Kapil K Gupta spoke about the BMM which started in  2006 and gained popularity since its inception.

 “We have over 25 international athletes confirmed as of date and are expecting a total of over 3,000 to join the Midnight Marathon,” Gupta said.
 Siddaiah assured to provide complete medical support to the runners in the marathon.

Sharmila Mandre, a fitness freak, said that she was looking forward to participating in the event. She requested her fans to run for the cause and bring back greenery to the city.

“By participating in the marathon, one can blend fitness with a social cause,” said Chytra V Anand.

Individuals or corporates wanting to participate in BMM-2010 can register online by logging on to www.midnightmarathon.in or www.rbitc.org after paying `300 which is contribution for a green cause.
