Former IT&BT minister Katta Subramanya Naidu and his corporator son Katta Jagadish, imprisoned in Parappana Agrahara, have their hopes pinned on the high court.

The junior Katta would be hoping for a birthday gift on Thursday, when he turns 33, as the court continues hearing of arguments on the father-son duo’s bail plea.

The case came up for hearing before justice V Jagannathan on Wednesday, after justice K N Keshvanarayana recused from hearing it. Justice V Jagannathan adjourned the case to Thursday.

CV Nagesh, the counsel for Katta Subramanya and Jagadish argued that the order passed by the trial court was not judicial, but only an administrative act.

In its objections, Lok Ayukta police submitted that the two should not be released on bail considering the magnitude of the scam and the plight of villagers who have suffered due to it.

If granted bail, Naidu and Jagadish could influence the absconding accused S Jaggaiah and BL Venkaiah. They could also tamper evidences with their political might, the LokAyukta police argued, adding that there was no serious reason to grant bail on medical grounds.

Naidu and Jagadish are seeking bail on medical grounds after the special Lok Ayukta court rejected their pleas.

SR Srinivas, managing director, Itaska Software, also filed bail plea on medical grounds. The three are accused in the multi-crore KIADB land scam.

Senior counsel MT Nanaiah will be representing the Lok Ayukta police in the bail pleas. He was the counsel for the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi and was also appointed as the counsel for the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in the disproportionate assets case involving Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa in the high court.
