BBMP corporator Mohammed Ali alias Diwan Ali's murder is not the first political murder in Bangalore.

The city has been witness to two other murders of corporators since 1996.

Venkatachala, a corporator representing Azad Nagar in the then Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) was murdered in Chamarajpet in 1996.

He was killed after a minor brawl with a local rowdy at a bar and restaurant. The rowdy killed Venkatachala by hitting him with a wooden piece. A case was registered at the Chamarajpet police station.

In another incident, D Shaila, a women corporator of Hombegowda Nagar ward was killed in 2001.

She was hanged by her alleged lover who reportedly committed suicide after the murder.

Shaila is believed to have continued her relationship with the killer even after her marriage to another man.
