Self-styled godman Paramahamsa Nithyananda, facing criminal charges including rape, sought the pardon of his former driver-turned-whistleblower Karuppa Lenin, and offered him protection, the criminal investigation department submitted before the high court of Karnataka on Thursday.

This was revealed in a compact disk that Lenin had produced, investing officer and superintended of police (CID) KN Yogappa said in an affidavit.

The officer said that three prime witnesses in the case have been staying in the US. The godman had caused agony to all the three witnesses —  Nithya Vimalananda, Vinay Bharadwaj and Ma Nithyananda Gopika.

The first information report had accused Nithyananda of sexually harassing Vimalananda and Bharadwaj. Yogappa said efforts were on to bring the prime witnesses to Bangalore.
Besides these three, a few others too had provided their statements against Nithyananda.

Without naming the person, Yogappa said that the person was sexually abused and raped for over four years, in “the guise of spiritual enlightment.”

Some other devotees provided details on the fraud and deception the godman had committed. Ten non-disclosure agreements signed by five devotees had been seized, Yogappa submitted, adding that these persons were “taken for tantrik sex, and exposed to obscenity.

The officer claimed that the materials collected “clearly show the acts of deception” by Nithyananda.

The CID had examined Lenin, and the camera used in recording the alleged sleaze acts of the swamy, was sent to the forensic science laboratory for scientific examination.

Two persons, Gurucharan and KP Praveen, told the CID that Nithyananda’s actions had hurt the religious sentiments.
Yogappa further said in the affidavit that the investigation into allegation against Nithyananda was under progress. Requesting more time to complete the investigation, the officer said statements of several persons staying abroad were yet to be recorded, besides collecting information from several former devotees.

A decision on whether to prosecute Nithyananda under section 295-A (outraging religious sentiments) would be taken only after completing the investigation.

The affidavit was filed based on the court’s September 13 directive.
