A 20-year-old woman, allegedly harassed by her husband for dowry, committed suicide in her house in Netaji Layout in Chandra Layout on Friday.

The deceased is identified as Swetha, a native of Turuvekere. She had married Ravi Balagangadhar four months ago.
Her parents had spent more than `9 lakh for the marriage. But Balagangadhar was harassing Swetha for even more dowry.
Depressed by the incessant harassment, Swetha allegedly took the extreme step around 11 am.

Balagangadhar informed Swetha’s parents that she had committed suicide by hanging herself. Her parents reached the house to find Swetha lying on the floor. They alleged that Balagangadhar had killed Swetha.

There was an argument in the presence of police. The situation, however, came under control after the police arrested Balagangadhar. Swetha’s parents have filed a complaint with Chandra Layout police. Her body has been shifted to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem. Investigation is on.
