In addition to the trains running between Bangalore and Mysore, another train will be introduced in less than a month, said Union minister of state for railways KH Muniyappa on Sunday. He flagged off the Chamundi Express, an existing train that carried special hoardings of Mysore Dasara and the products of the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents.

Muniyappa said the track-doubling work between Mysore and Bangalore will be completed in 2013, easing the railway traffic between the two cities. This work should have been completed by now but a few monuments in Srirangapatna need to be shifted to make way for the new tracks. This work has now been entrusted to the Institution of Engineers, who have initiated planning operations for the shifting of monuments.

One of the important monuments to be shifted is Tipu Sultan’s armoury at Srirangapatna, which is a very delicate structure and will be rebuilt a little away from the present location. The railways have also planned to acquire 45 acres for the doubling of tracks.
