Narayana Health City is going places — to Grand Cayman Islands in the USA, to be precise. A replica of the City will soon come up on the islands.
Narayana Hrudayalaya on Wednesday signed a 10-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of the Grand Cayman Islands in this regard.
Sources at the hospital said that a 2,000-bed multi-specialty health city would be built at the Cayman Islands at a cost of $200 million.
The government of the island would provide the land required for the mega healthcare project, they said.
“Cayman Islands is a tax-free zone, and thus attracts investments from many US citizens. Besides, it is a favoured tourist destination, just like Goa in India. A health city in such a location would be ideal for patients in the US,” said a source at Narayana Health City.
“It will also save them the cost of travelling to other countries for healthcare services. We will eventually tie up with insurance companies over there. This will again prove advantageous to patients in the US as the outgo on insurance would be much lesser,” the source said.
A cardiac surgery costs $65,000 approximately in the US. Similarly, a paediatric cardiac surgery costs up to $10 there. Such services would be provided at very nominal rates at the health city, a senior official said.
The health city at Cayman Islands would pool in doctors from both India and the US.
“While some of our doctors will be shifted to the US on a permanent basis, we will absorb some good Indian doctors practising in America too,” a source said.
