A 23-year-old man has been arrested by Kamakshipalya police for abducting a 13-year-old girl with the suspected intention of raping her.
A 23-year-old man has been arrested by Kamakshipalya police for abducting a 13-year-old girl with the suspected intention of raping her. The arrested youth, Ashok Kumar alias Shekar, is a resident of Sunkadakatte in Kamakshipalya.
Kumar was arrested on Sunday for abducting the girl and keeping her in a locked-out garment factory in Sunkadakatte.
The girl has undergone medical tests to confirm whether she was raped. She was found with her hands and legs tied with ropes and a piece of cloth stuffed in her mouth to prevent her from screaming.
Kumar is an ex-colleague of the girl’s parents, Manoj Kumar and Indu Devi, who earlier worked at a garment factory. The girl is a Class VII student in Sunkadakatte school, and was abducted on Saturday at 8.30am when she was on her way to school, police said.
After the police found the girl in the factory, she informed them that Kumar had asked her to marry him. But when she refused, he forcibly took her to the factory and harassed her, said the police. Kumar often visited the girl’s house. During his visits, he took a liking to the girl.
Manoj now works as a security guard and Kumar used to visit their residence when he was out on duty.
When the girl did not return home after school, Manoj and Indu went to her school. The school authorities informed them that she had not attended school on Saturday.
They suspected Kumar when they found him near the factory.
They asked him about their daughter’s whereabouts, but he feigned ignorance. When they forcibly entered the garment factory, they found their daughter tied up and informed the police.
A case of kidnapping has been registered, but if the medical tests prove that rape had been committed, a case to that effect will be registered against Kumar, police said.
