Man murders three people in 14 days for Rs1,505

Anand killed a person for as little as Rs5; he also stole three mobile phones from his victims.

Anand, a 20-year-old man who murdered three persons in 14 days, has been arrested. Anand is a resident of Kanakanagar, Pattegarapalya Main Road, Vijayanagar.

Police commissioner BG Jyothiprakash Mirji said Anand was arrested by a special team that was formed to nab him. Anand allegedly murdered three persons in a short period of 14 days between April 14 and May 2.

Anand’s victims were targeted between 7pm and 8pm near Pete Chennappa Industrial Area and cases have been registered at the Kamakshipalya police station.

Investigation revealed that Anand had killed a person for
as little as Rs5 and a mobile phone. In total, he stole Rs1,505 cash and three mobile phones from his victims. Interestingly, Anand gifted a mobile phone to a friend and sold the other two mobiles phones for Rs200 and Rs300.

The victims had succumbed to head injuries, said the police. On Thursday, the police picked Anand from the area. He confessed that he had murdered three people by hitting them on the head.

The police said Anand targeted people who used to walk alone at night. He used to divert their attention by seeking directions and later hit them with a wooden stick. The police said he killed Krishna, 31, a daily-wage labour and resident of Moodalapalya, on April 19. The police found Krishna’s body between Moodalapalya and Kamakshipalya and registered a case of unnatural death.

Later, they registered a murder case after receiving the autopsy report. Ten days later, on April 29, Anand killed Dinesh, 30, a garment factory employee, in Kamakshipalya. Dinesh was a resident of Malagala near Mudalapalya. He was assaulted around 9pm.

A passer-by informed the police around at 9.50 pm that a person was lying unconscious at Pete Channappa Industrial Estate. The police found that Dinesh had a serious head injury. He was rushed to Nimhans but and died in wee hours the next day. 

Basavaraj, 48, was Anand’s third victim. A carpenter by profession, he was found murdered at Sumanahalli Junction on May 2.

Basavaraj was a resident of Malagala near Mudalapalya. The police said the incident came to light when a passer-by found the dead body near the road.
