The porngate has come in for severe criticism from all parts of the society in the coast and Malnad regions.
Political parties, social organisations, women’s organisations, Left parties held protests and addressed press conferences, throughout the day.
At Mangalore the SDPI - Socialist Democratic Party of India held a protest in the city and demanded the repeal of Assembly membership of the three former ministers caught viewing porn in the assembly.
The party listed the scandals and scams of the BJP government starting from the minegate by Reddy brothers of Bellary, landgate, rape charges against Hartal Halappa, sex scandal involving excise minister Renukacharya, land grab cases against Yeddyurappa and his cabinet colleague Katta Subramanya Naidu, the trapping of BJP MLA Sampangi while taking bribe by the Lokayukta and the latest porngate.
The CPI (M) leader B. Madhava, who led a party demo in Mangalore, was also critical about the way the BJP legislators were conducting themselves in public. “We don’t know how many of them were doing outrageous things behind the scenes. The sheer audacity of CC Patil, Krishna Palemar and Lakshman Savadi of watching porn clippings in the middle of the assembly session has shocked us. The chief minister and the speaker should throw the trio out of the house and politics as early as possible,” he said.
JD (S) Udupi district unit also held a demo at the town centre. Deviprasad Shetty president of the unit told DNA that his party was holding protests in every part of the state and soon will also meet the governor.
Protests were held at Mysore too. At Gandhi Square by the Nagarika Rakshana Samithi, they burnt effigies of the three ministers. A few members of the BJP, who tried to prevent the supply of newspapers carrying the news of the porngate, were beaten up by the public.
