Lok Ayukta raid houses of officials, Rs7.04 crore property seized

The Lok Ayukta police on Friday raided the houses of officials in Bangalore, Bagalkot and Shimoga and seized property worth more than Rs7.04 crore. In Bangalore, the police raided the houses of SM Ramakrishna, additional chief engineer of BWSSB; T Sriram, executive engineer, BWSSB; and Ramalingaiah, assistant executive engineer, PWD.

Ramakrishna’s assets include two houses in Bangalore, three sites in JP Nagar, HBR Layout and Magadi Road; two vehicles and investment in bonds; and mutual funds worth Rs13 lakh. The officials seized Rs2 lakh cash, gold (200 gm), silver (4 kg) and documents of 10 bank accounts with lockers. Additional director general of police, Lok Ayukta, Sri Jeevankumar Gaonkar, said the Ramakrishna’s assets are worth Rs70 lakh, but his annual income is Rs1.25 lakh.

At Sriram’s house, officials found documents of four houses in Basaveshwaranagar, West of Chord Road and Jarkarkal Bande Kaval and a flat in Whitefield; they are worth Rs1 crore. Sriram also owns eight sites worth Rs4 lakh; 10 guntas of agricultural land in Kunigal; and a car and two motorcycles. Platinum (30 gm), gold (186 gm), silver (935 gm), and documents of a bank with Rs42 lakh balance and Rs4 lakh cash were also seized.

Sriram’s income is Rs63.24 lakh per annum, but his assets are worth Rs2.17 crore.

Ramalingaiah owns two houses; two sites in Kengeri and Mallathalli; two cars and two motorcycles. The police also found gold jewellery (200 gm), silver articles (1.7 kg), Rs1.08 lakh cash, four bank accounts and two lockers. His income is Rs32 lakh per annum, but his assets are worth Rs1.17 crore.

In Bagalkot, the house of Lakshman Shivappa Goundi of the food and civil supplies department was raided. His income is Rs34 lakh a year, but his assets are worth Rs1.19 crore.

In the raid in the house of S Ramakrishnappa, assistant executive engineer, minor irrigation, in Shimoga, his annual income was found to be Rs45.55 lakh, but his assets were worth Rs1.26 crore.
