A 29-year-old woman, who was listening to music using her mobile phone headphones while crossing a railway track, was mowed down by train near Marathahalli on Tuesday morning. Mahananda Ghosh, a resident of Doddanekkundi, was visiting the city from Howrah, West Bengal, for an internship at a hotel near Marathahalli after completing a course in hotel management.
The railway police said Mahananda was on her way to the hotel at 10.30 am when the accident took place. Engrossed in music, she failed to notice the approaching train at Marathahalli railway bridge. Her body was dragged for 500 meters and sheared into more than 400 pieces, police said.
“We have not found the headset or mobile phone. Somebody must have stolen them from the spot,” an investigative officer said.
The body was shifted to Bowring Hospital for postmortem, which
will be conducted after the arrival of her father, Manoj Ghosh, and other relatives.
