According to police, Renuka fell in love with a PUC student from another college whom she met at a tutorial college.
Parental opposition to a love affair drove a 20-year-old law student to hang herself in her home in Saraswatipuram.
Renuka took the extreme step around midnight on Sunday when her parents and younger brother were fast asleep in another room. The incident came to light early on Monday when the mother went to Renuka’s room to wake her up.
When Renuka failed to respond to her repeated calls to open the door, the mother got suspicious. She peered through the open window and was shocked to find her daughter’s body hanging from a ceiling fan. Renuka used her dupatta (scarf) to end her life.
She left behind a suicide note in which she said she was taking the extreme step as her parents opposed her love with a boy whom she first met in a tuition centre. Renuka said she could not live without him adding that she was ending her life as her persuasions failed to move her parents.
“I am responsible for my death,” she said in the note.
According to police, Renuka fell in love with a PUC student from another college whom she met at a tutorial college. They became friends and soon fell in love with each other. The affair went on for four years before her parents came to know about it. They vehemently opposed it and told her to stay away from the boy, a resident of Shivanahalli in Rajajinagar.
On Sunday, she had an argument with her parents over the affair. After dinner, she went to her bedroom to study.
Renuka’s father is working with a private company and her mother is a housewife. Her body was handed over to the family after a postmortem examination in MS Ramaiah Hospital. A case has been registered in Nandini layout police station.
