The high court on Wednesday posted the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) ex-chief HN Krishna’s anticipatory bail case to September 19. Krishna, who is facing allegations of nepotism in appointments, had requested Karnataka high court to grant him anticipatory bail.

The case came up for hearing before justice H Billappa on Wednesday who posted the case to September 19 for orders. It may be recalled that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) police had filed a complaint against Krishna on August 11. He is accused of irregularities in appointments made to Group A and B posts of the KPSC during his tenure.

Apprehending arrest, Krishna had earlier applied for anticipatory bail in a fasttrack court. His plea was rejected because the investigation against him was not complete yet. Now he has approached the high court to seek anticipatory bail. Justice L Narayana Swamy heard the bail plea and adjourned it to next week after directing the state government to file its objections.

Krishna is accused of forcibly obtaining signatures of one candidate Allah Baksh on some documents and using them to disqualify him from the KPSC job he had got on merit. Further, there are allegations against KPSC officials that they were biased against and inclined towards certain categories at various stages of selection. In his application for anticipatory bail, Krishna claimed he is innocent. Further, he has highlighted that the incident in question had taken place in 2005 but Baksh had chosen to complain after six years.

In the case of Kaleel Ahmed and 61 others — who had filed a writ petition in the high court alleging irregularities in appointments to Group A and B posts — the high court had on August 23 directed the CID to complete the investigation into the charges within six months.
