Farmers who were protesting against the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) ended their agitation on Tuesday. They were demanding the fixation of new price to the acquired land and compensation of `7,000 every month for the expenditure of families of agriculturists who have lost land.

The agitation was organised by  Karnataka State Farmers’ Association,  Hasiru Sene and Outer Peripheral Road Struggle Committee.

At least 2,000 acres were acquired for the Outer Peripheral Road, which connects Tumkur Road and Hosur Road.

The price fixed was between `5 lakh per acre and Rs2 lakh
per acre. But, the existing land rate is more than Rs2 crore per acre.

The farmers demanded that they must get at least Rs1 crore per acre. Otherwise, the project must be stopped, they said.

Farmers swarmed the BDA premises on Monday with their livestock.

Agitators on Monday warned that the protest will continue until the BDA agrees to their demands.  They had spent Monday night on the BDA premises.

On Tuesday evening, Kodihalli Chandrashekar, a prominent leader who spearheaded the protest, declared that he is ending the protest.

“Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda had assured that a meeting would be held on Jan 19 where a final decision would be taken on the price. We have decided to wait until then. If the government cheats us, we will organise more intensified protests in the city,” he added.
